From state league, to A-League and now an international call from Pim Verbeek, it's been quite a journey for Cole.

His early season impact did see him named in one of Verbeek's initial World Cup qualifying squads although he didn't make the final cut.

Cole is the only Sydney FC player named in Verbeek’s 21-man team which will depart for Jakarta on Monday, after the Sky Blues’ season-ending clash with Newcastle Jets at the Sydney Football Stadium.

A minor hip injury kept Cole out of the Sydney FC side for Saturday's defeat at Queensland Roar but the 24-year-old will be fit and raring to go for the upcoming Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia.

After learning of his selection he said: "Obviously it’s an understatement to say it’s a great honour because it’s something that every football wants to do, represent their country.

“I’m just going to approach it the same say I approach training all the time and really get stuck in and do my best.

“It’s one of those things where you hear people say all the time, if you told me this 12 months ago I would have said you were crazy, so it goes without saying that it’s not something that I expected at all or considered."

But now the chance has presented itself, it is an opportunity Cole intends to grasp with both hands.

He said: "I'm looking forward to getting into camp with the team and I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got to play my part if I’m given the chance.”
