Michal Pospisil had already given the Jambos the best possible start to the game by bagging the opener after just 30 seconds before Andrew McNeil's glaring error helped Hearts secure their 2-0 win.

The Hibernian goalkeeper flapped at a Roman Bednar cross into the box and Andrew Driver took advantage of the mistake to rifle home - leaving the shocked Hibernian fans with a horrible sense of deja vu.

The season began badly with Zbigniew Malkowski's error in a previous Edinburgh derby, before Simon Brown found himself at fault against Rangers.

McNeil then made the news for all the wrong reasons just two weeks ago when he failed to deal with two Charlie Adam free-kicks against the Ibrox side.

With today's humiliating mistake just the latest in a catalogue of mistakes, Collins was asked if the goalkeeping situation is now a real cause for concern.

"That's a wonderful question, isn't it?" he replied.

"We know where we need to strengthen, let's put it that way. We can't change things during the season.

"Andy is an honest lad and he knows himself that he should have done better."

Speaking of Hibernian's dismal start to the game, Collins added: "When you give very early goals away, life becomes tough. It makes it more difficult for us.

"Their tails are up, they're confident and we become too edgy. That's the perfect word for us in the first half, edgy.

"We made critical mistakes and they didn't. We had some chances and we could have done better but we didn't and we will learn from this and go forward."

Meanwhile, Laryea Kingston faces a race against time to recover from injury in time to take part in what could be his final game for Hearts next week.

He limped off the park with an ankle knock and later re-appeared on crutches as the players returned to the field to acknowledge the fans after their last match of the season at Tynecastle.

Kingston has been a huge hit since joining on loan from Terek Grozny but no decision has been made on whether his move to Hearts will be a permanent one.

He is also awaiting a decision on his appeal against a three-match ban, which would otherwise have ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Of the injury, assistant head coach Stevie Frail said: "We will need to assess him tomorrow.

"I don't know the situation with his loan deal, you would need to speak to people further up than me.

"We also have this appeal hanging over us - that might be this week, it might not - but hopefully we can get him fit and take it from there."
