WEST Ham may be in a relegation fight, but for young midfielder Jack Collison, things could not be rosier.
The 19-year-old has made his home debut, scored his first Barclays Premier League goal and been given his chance by boss Gianfranco Zola in the absence of England under-21 midfielder Mark Noble.
Now Collison is set to be given the opportunity to cement himself in Wales' side tomorrow in the friendly against Denmark in Copenhagen alongside Arsenal starlet Aaron Ramsey.
Collison said: "I have had a brilliant couple of weeks with West Ham. I have been given my opportunity in the first team and scored my first goal in the Premier League.
"I know I have been given a really good chance to impress by our manager. He has told me that I will be getting more time on the pitch on a regular basis.
"He seems to like the way I play and is giving me all the encouragement he can.
"Now I am also getting a chance with Wales, and seeing Aaron also being called in is brilliant for both of us.
"He is an outstanding player and great to play alongside. We have worked well together in the Under-21s and now we seem to be getting the chance to establish a partnership in the senior side, which we both hope will last for a long time."
The match should also see Hull keeper Boaz Myhill in the starting line-up.
Myhill has been outstanding for Hull in their first season in the top flight, and could replace 20-year-old Wayne Hennessey, who has not been in the Wolves side recently.
Myhill said: "I know people are saying that I will play against Denmark, but frankly, I am just happy to be here.
"Obviously, I really want to play but I accept that Wayne is the man in possession and I cannot anticipate anything.
"Only one keeper can start, and it is up to the gaffer. But my involvement with Wales has certainly been another boost for me in a great season.
"With Hull doing so well in the Premier League at the moment, things are going really well. The step up has been difficult, for all of us, but we have all taken to the top flight well.
"I am just enjoying being part of the Wales set-up and I still feel that I am learning. With people like Paul Jones, our goalkeeping coach, around there is someone who understands international football having played for Wales for so long.
"As for Aaron Ramsey, he is an exceptional talent, and with him and Jack Collison coming into the squad at their age, I find myself being one of the senior players around the place."
Boss John Toshack lost David Vaughan, Carl Fletcher, Simon Davies, Jason Koumas and Joe Ledley from the original party through injury.
Ledley dislocated a finger playing for Cardiff against Crystal Palace on Saturday and will need an operation that could keep him out for a month.
Manchester City striker Ched Evans tweaked a hamstring during the warm-down at Hull on Sunday, where he had been an unused substitute, so Toshack decided to add Swansea winger Shaun MacDonald to the squad, along with Cardiff's Darcy Blake and Swansea's Owain Tudur Jones.
