The USA took the lead on the half-hour mark on Friday at Independence Park in Kingston when Jozy Altidore latched onto a cross from Graham Zusi and headed past Donovan Ricketts from close range.

Leicester City striker Jermaine Beckford looked to have secured a point for Jamaica when he netted in the 89th minute, but there was one more twist in the tale when Evans collected a Michael Bradley pass in the box in stoppage time before turning and rifling a right-foot shot into the top corner.

The win moved Juergen Klinsmann's men into second place in CONCACAF's World Cup qualifying group, level on seven points with leaders Costa Rica, who enjoyed a 1-0 win at home over Honduras.

Roy Miller scored the only goal of the game for Costa Rica after 25 minutes.

Mexico are also on seven points after their 0-0 draw with Panama away from home.

The top three sides in the group will all get a place at Brazil 2014, and it is a close-run race with Costa Rica, the USA and Mexico all on seven points - although Mexico have played one more game - while Panama are in fourth place on six points.

Honduras are still in contention on four points, with Jamaica anchored to the foot of the table on two.
