Just under 10,000 people turned up to the season opener to see City begin their campaign with a 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

Bruce Kamau netted a brace in what was a disciplined performance by the home side.

In the past two seasons City have been hailed as the league's entertainers with their ability to score heavily, while also leaking goals at the back.

But Joyce said that was all a thing of the past and was looking to build momentum after a disappointing quarter-final exit to Sydney FC in the FFA Cup.

“You’re just looking to get consistency and in the last three games we’ve played we’ve been consistent,” Joyce said.

“We’ve got different players at different stages and you’re actually throwing them together to try and prepare for a game when some of them have not really played.

“We’ve kept three clean sheets, I don’t think either sides had a proper shot in the last three games so you need a platform to build on… you’ve got to look to bounce back and be consistent every day in training.”

Bruce braces for huge season

Joyce also said he was proud of Kamau’s contribution after having a shaky first half.

“I thought we had some good build up play, you want better quality,” he said.

“He took his goals well, those things I wasn’t critical but encouraging at half-time, I thought we had to be more positive and to get at the last defender.”

Scot Ross McCormack managed 82 minutes under his belt and despite looking rusty, Joyce felt the former Aston Villa man played well.

“I’m pleased with his contribution to the second goal, good pro, good talking to some of the younger and older players, wants to play football and wants to win,” Joyce said.

“He’ll only get better from here on in.”
