The stadium is planned to be a world class sports venue for Western Sydney, and will allow Western Sydney to increase their capacity by almost 10,000 people.

Wanderers' Chief Executive Officer, John Tsatsimas and captain Robbie Cornthwaite were on hand for the soil turning ceremony, as was New South Wales Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres.

Mr Ayres claimed the stadium will be one of Australia's finest.

"Western Sydney Stadium is designed to ensure fans are closer to the action than any stadium in the country," he said.Β

β€œIt will offer 3,000 premium seats and a 360-degree open concourse with views of the playing field - meaning fans won't miss any of the action."

Western Sydney Stadium is due for completion in the first half of 2019.
