Corica netted the decisive goal from the penalty spot in a match which saw Sydney keeper Clint Bolton keep out a Jets spot kick.

The captain said: "Clint Bolton made a great save for the penalty," Corica said, "That was like last weekend when Johnny (Aloisi) missed his but this week it was the other way around. That might've been the turning point for us.

"(With) two losses, (it) showed a lot of character from the boys," said Corica. "After two losses you might go into your shell but I think today we showed that we're up for it even with a lot of players out we showed good fighting spirit."

Coach Vitezslav Lavicka was also happy with both the result and the response from his team after recent setbacks.

Lavicka had demanded more from his players after reading them the riot act after last week's defeat by North Queensland Fury.

"Today all players showed (the) right, strong, tough character," said the Sydney coach.

Sydney's other goalscorer, former Newcastle Jet Mark Bridge, was delighted to be on the scoresheet and paid tribute to a teammate for his part in the goal.

"I got myself in space and Brosque took all the defenders with him," said Bridge.  "I had a shot and it was lucky enough to go in."

The three points gives Sydney a share of top spot alongside Gold Coast United.
