Can football restore Sydney's sporting pride? Sydney FC's Stevie Corica hopes it can when his side faces A-League champions Melbourne in a blockbuster encounter this Saturday night.
"Sydney is hurting following Melbourne's rugby league success,” said Corica.
Last weekend, Melbourne Storm easily defeated the Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL Grand Final.
“But we've got a terrific opportunity to restore the city's sports pride on Saturday and we'll be going all out to do so," adds Corica, who lives in the heart of Manly Warringah Sea Eagles territory.
The attacking midfielder, who got on the score sheet the last time Sydney hosted Victory, is part of a side that has won back-to-back A-League matches having defeated both Queensland and the Jets in the last two weeks.
Victory recorded its first A-League win of the season last week with a 2-0 win over Roar. With Victory and Sydney on eight points, this will be a vital match for both sides.
Melbourne is currently home to the champions of the AFL, NRL and A-League, making it arguably the sporting capital of the country.
