Sydney FC will be pitted against Houston Dynamo, Japanese powerhouse Gamba Osaka and the David Beckham-led LA Galaxy in the four-team tournament.
Sydney FC arrived in Hawaii yesterday to take part in the inaugural Pan Pacific Championships.
In the last three years, Sydney FC became the first Hyundai A-League club to take part in the FIFA Club World Championships and the AFC Asian Champions League and Corica believes the side must continue to enhance Australian football’s growing reputation.
“We are representing Australia so it’s very important for us to do well in the tournament,” Corica said. “Also, we are professionals and whatever tournament you go into you do your best and hopefully that will be the same in this tournament.”
“It’s a new tournament, the Pan Pacific Games, and it’s nice to be involved in it. We have also been involved in the (FIFA) World Club Championships and the (AFC) Asian Champions League and it’s nice to be playing abroad.
“It’s a good consolation prize but obviously I would prefer to be back in Australia playing in the Grand Final.”
Sydney FC takes on Houston Dynamo on Wednesday night at 8.30pm (5.30pm Thursday, Sydney time) and au.fourfourtwo.com will be running a live minute-by-minute commentary.
We are in Hawaii with Sydney and will be running daily updates on the club's campaign.
