EXCLUSIVE: Steve Corica's speed of thought is the weapon which gives him the edge over his younger A-League peers, according to a former Sydney FC teammate.
The Moore Park skipper has yet to decide whether he will play on for another season but North Queensland Fury's Robbie Middleby sees few signs of the petrol tank running on empty.
Corica will be 37 by the time the current A-League season comes to an end but Middleby sees a player who remains as dangerous and effective as any in the competition.
"I think what makes Steve stand out is that he is so intelligent as a footballer," Middleby told au.fourfourtwo.com. "It is his speed of thought which makes such a difference.
"He has the ability to outsmart much younger opponents, to see opportunities and create openings for teammates. To me he looks mentally and physically sharp still.
"I don't know whether he will decide to play on but I still believe he can so if he wants to. He's certainly a player we need to be wary of this weekend."
While happy to acknowledge the continuing efforts of an A-League veteran, Middleby is delighted one of the younger generation has been acknowledged for his recent efforts.
Fury teammate Rostyn Griffiths has been chosen as the A-League's young player of the month for November.
"Rostyn's a very good young player," added Middleby. "He has been swapped around into different roles due to injuries but come through that challenge with flying colours.
"He has performed consistently and versatility is always something that is going to make a coach happy. I'm really pleased for him. He deserves it."
