Speaking this morning at the Socceroo team hotel alongside fellow Socceroo keeper Danny Vukovic, Covic said the injury is being treated but he hopes to train later today.

“There's a cork in the upper thigh region. It probably looked worse than it was. I did an aerobic session this morning – it was a little uncomfortable but I'll train this afternoon,” he said.

“I'll see how it feels, I'm sure there'll be a bit of discomfort but that's all. These things happen when everyone is up for it at training.”

Yesterday's training ground injury sustained after James Holland slid into Covic is still a concern for the Socceroos.

“As soon as we hit it [the pain] just focussed on the thigh and I knew pretty much it was a cork so I knew it wasn't ligaments or ankle,” said Covic.

“They can be bad but I got off the field pretty quick and got some treatment on it and it eased up pretty quickly.”

Mark Schwarzer is expected to arrive in Melbourne early Tuesday morning with the big Boro glovesman hoping to start ahead of 32-year-old Covic on Wednesday night against Qatar.

“I'm here now,” said Covic. “I've got my head screwed on with the focus that if I'm out there, I'm out there.

“I'm training as a position to be on the bench or second choice. I'd still love to be between the sticks. But that's a decision if Mark Schwarzer comes in.

“Obviously if he comes all the way from Europe you've got to assume he's going to be between the sticks. I've just got to work hard and hope I'll be part of the game in some respects. But that's a decision for Pim.

“I've always had confidence in myself.”
