Chelsea striker Sturridge has joined Wanderers on loan until the end of the season and will be looking to make as much of an impact as Wilshere, who moved to the Reebok Stadium on a similar deal 12 months ago and is now a regular in the Arsenal side.

The 19-year-old backed Sturridge's move on Twitter but his England Under-21 team-mate was prevented from talking over the benefits of a spell at Bolton after losing his phone.

Sturridge explained: "I lost my phone the other day so I didn't get to speak to anyone, I just went on what the manager told me and I know a few of the players here anyway so it wasn't a huge issue.

"I knew it was a great club and what the manager said to me was enough to convince me."

Sturridge has had only limited opportunities at Chelsea since leaving Manchester City 18 months ago, but has still managed four goals this season and Coyle is confident there is plenty more to come.

He said: "You look at the impact that Jack had last year and since he's gone back (to Arsenal).

"I think Fabio Capello's now talking about building the England team around him because of the quality he's shown, and he's continued to improve. Sometimes young players just need that opportunity and then their career just blossoms.

"When he (Sturridge) has had an opportunity to play he's shown everybody the quality he has and he'll get that opportunity at Bolton Wanderers, and it will be up to him to go and show, not only the Barclays Premier League, but the whole world the talent he has, because I certainly believe in it.

"The easiest thing for him would have been to sit on the bench at Chelsea but I think he's shown tremendous bravery to say, 'I want to come out and play and show everybody the quality I have'.

"And he's got to be applauded for that. That's part of his character and something that I really warmed to."

Sturridge, who is set to make his debut against Wolves tomorrow night, is certainly not guaranteed to walk into the Bolton team, with captain Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander both enjoying impressive Barclays Premier League seasons.

The Swede in particular has appeared a player transformed after struggling in his first two seasons in England, and Sturridge revealed that was a major factor in his decision to come to Bolton.

"I think Kevin Davies is the best target man in the country," he added. "No one else can do what he does. He's a fighter, I've never seen a player win so many headers in my life.

"He's a strong player and he can score goals and he's got a good touch as well.

"Elmander's a skilful player and he's started to gain confidence since he started playing under Owen Coyle, and that's the main reason I came here because I know he'll be able to instil some confidence in me and I can start playing some good football also.

"I'm sure I'll enjoy my time here and I'll leave with a smile on my face."

Coyle also brought in David Wheater from Middlesbrough last week but revealed today he backed out of a loan deal for Arsenal's Carlos Vela because of his agent's financial demands.

The Scot also confirmed he had not received any offers for his players, something that was a surprise but also very welcome as Wanderers look to increase the depth of their squad.

Lee Chung-yong's return from the Asian Cup means potentially three additions against Wolves, when Bolton will look to end a poor run of form that has seen them pick up only one point from their last five Premier League games.

Coyle said: "I think it's been a good window but it needed to be because you look over the Christmas and new year period and we were left with 15 players for three or four games, so we had to look to keep the group we had and add one or two new players, and obviously Lee Chung-yong coming back is a terrific boost as well.

"What we have to do now is go and try to win a very difficult game against Wolves and look to get up and running and try to pick up points again."
