SOCCEROO defender Chris Coyne is not expecting to clock up more air miles on Asian Cup qualifying duty as he looks to cement a spot with his club.
Coyne, who is hoping to feature for Colchester United against Yeovil tomorrow, admits all the international travel has not helped him at club level and he's now looking forward to a spell free of airports.
He told the Ipswich Evening Star: "It's about three months before the next World Cup qualifier, so now I've got a chance to cement my position in the team.
“I want to start helping Colchester to climb the table. Playing for your country is a fantastic experience, but as I've said before, it's been detrimental to my form for the club.
“I've tended to play a couple of games, then go away for a couple of games, play once more and then miss three on the trot."
Australia's next World Cup qualifier is in February but the quest for Asian Cup qualification is also on the horizon.
However, it seems that will be largely down to the efforts of A-League rather than overseas performers.
Coyne said: "There are a few Asian Cup qualifiers on the horizon, but the manager has already said that he will pick the home-grown players for these games, because he understands the burden placed on the players who have to travel so far away from their clubs."
