Australian forward Joel Griffiths headed the second-placed hosts in front three minutes into the second half before Obina restored parity a minute from time.

The attack-minded home side caused plenty of problems for their visitors from the outset.

Wang Xiaolong called Shandong goalkeeper Yang Cheng into action after 17 minutes with a fierce long-range effort that was parried.

Zhang Xinxin's long-range shot five minutes later proved even more testing but Yang made an excellent save to deny him.

Xu Liang thought he had opened the scoring for the hosts three minutes before the half-hour mark with a powerful effort from the edge of box, only to see Yang stretch out to palm the ball away.

Lebanon international Roda Antar came close to opening the scoring for the visitors four minutes before the interval, but his close-range low shot was parried by Yang Zhi.

The home side broke the deadlock soon after the restart when Xu's ball across the face of goal was headed past Yang Cheng by Griffiths.

Han Peng went close to equalising with a 25-yard drive but the ball deflected off defender Zhou Ting and flew just wide of the Yang Zhi's post.

Obina did get his side level, though, when he latched onto a long cross by Liu Jindong and beat Yang Zhi from 20 yards.

"One second of complacency cost us two points in the game," said Beijing's Portuguese manager Jaime Pacheco.

"We proved that we are a stronger team than the rivals. It was just a matter of luck and we'll be well prepared for the next game."

Beijing have not lost a game in the last nine rounds of the domestic league and they are on 22 points, three adrift leaders Guangzhou Evergrande who got the better of 10-man Shaanxi Baorong 2-0 at Guangzhou Tianhe Stadium.

Brazilian striker Muriqui drew first blood for the hosts in the 75th minute with a superb shot from the left before Wan Houliang was sent off three minutes later.

Unmarked Wu Pingfeng added a second goal in stoppage time, receiving a smart pass from Ye Weichao to fire the ball into the net.

Third-placed Liaoning Zhongyu thumped Shenzhen Kingway 6-1. Yu Hanchao bagged a brace, with Zhao Junzhe, Xu Yang, Valdo and Cheng Xing also on target for Liaoning with Yoo-jin Kim's second-half own goal scant consolation for bottom-placed Shenzhen.

Elsewhere, Hangzhou Greentown edged Shanghai Shenhua 1-0, Jiangsu Shuntian beat Chengdu Blade 1-0, Changchun Yatai overcame Nanchang Bayi 1-0, Qingdao Zhongneng and Henan Jianye played out a 1-1 draw and Dalian Shide and Tianjin Teda shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
