The Socceroos star has been utilised in a full-back role by current club PSV Eindhoven at times this season but it isn't a role he is looking to get too settled into.

It seems he is anxious to provide assistance to the likes of Shane Smeltz and Joel Porter whenever possible.

Culina told goldcoast.com.au: "I'm keen to return to the position I played the early part of my career as an attacking midfielder for a club which has huge ambitions."

No question that Culina's capture is a powerful statement for the A-League but the midfielder is hoping he isn't the only big name that people will be delighted to see heading for home.

"This is an exciting time in my career. I'm now coming into my best years as a player in a competition I want to play my part into helping grow and improve.

"In my view, it's improving all the time and perhaps me coming back will show the way for other Socceroos who are contemplating returning home while still at the peak of their careers," he said.

There is still a Dutch season to finish first though and Culina helped his team earn a point from a 2-2 draw with leaders AZ Almaar at the weekend.
