Gus Poyet has revealed how the new regime at Tottenham would prefer players to be tee-total - until there is a reason to open the champagne.
Spurs players celebrated with drinks this week after thrashing Arsenal to reach the Carling Cup final, but staying away from alcohol has been a part of the success under head coach Juande Ramos.
Each player has a specific diet and has been warned against drinking, even if it is not totally outlawed.
"It's not when or how much because we can't control that," said assistant boss Poyet.
"We just need to convince them that, with good diet and being careful with alcohol, it helps.
"If you start winning then they start thinking 'maybe these guys are right'."
There are no procedures to test players for alcohol at Spurs but Poyet feels a change of results and maintaining a winning habit will inspire players.
"I trust the players a lot," he said. "That's the kind of assistant manager I am.
"We've been doing testing - testing weight, testing fat, fitness and different things to see if they're getting better or not. You can see looking at them."
Poyet feels celebrating as a team can help morale in the squad, and that a winning habit will lead to plenty of celebrations in the long term.
"I was very pleased that players went out to celebrate victory," he said.
"It was very important for team spirit and to keep getting better as a team.
"Of course we can't follow them everywhere and be like a big father controlling them. As players, you expect them to behave."
Poyet admits there is a different culture to socialising compared to the continent.
"I had the same problem when I arrived," he said. "You're coming from a totally different world in Spain in terms of habits.
"You try to accept some things but you can't accept everything because you know it's going to go against your team.
"That's been the way for a long time, no surprise. For a long time there have been big parties in England. You don't hear a lot about that in other places.
"I'm not saying it's good or bad. Sometimes it's good for the team spirit but also sometimes bad when you are in the newspapers."
