YOUNG Socceroo James Troisi has revealed he is still hopeful of a future under Kevin Keegan at Newcastle United.
The 19-year-old made his senior international debut against Singapore last month, but his current club deal expires at the end of the season.
Australia coach Pim Verbeek has previously indicated that the youngster needs to be playing first team football in order to progress and that has not been on offer this season at St James’s Park.
The 19-year-old spent some time on trial with Dutch outfit Roda FC this year, and finished off the reserve-team campaign against Manchester United last night in a 1-1 draw.
He told the Chronicle: “I’ll have a chat with the manager about my future. I haven’t done that yet because we’ve been concentrating on staying up.
“I would like to play in the first team a bit more. It’s been tough, but maybe next season I can play some first-team football.
"Whether it will be on loan, I don’t know.”
And speaking on recent experiences of playing against Manchester United and making his Socceroo debut, Troisi said: “It’s always a big thing to play Man United, and I thought we did quite well.
“It was fantastic to play for Australia. It’s always good to go away with the Australian team.
“They are a good bunch of lads and I was happy to make my debut. But to play more you need to play at club level regularly.”
