FORMER Melbourne Victory hitman Danny Allsopp scored twice in the first half to help D.C. United to their first win of the season and get past Kansas City Wizards 2-1 this morning.
Allsopp, signed as a free agent during the offseason, became the first Australian to score in MLS history and gave DC their first victory six games into the new season.
The fringe Socceroo recently returned from a hamstring injury and opened the scoring in the 12th minute.
Rodney Wallace sent a long ball over the Kansas City defense, and when Pablo Escobar misplayed the bouncing ball, Allsopp was ready to pounce.
His shot deflected high over Kansas City goalie Jimmy Nielsen, and D.C. held a 1-0 lead.
Allsopp's second strike came thanks to yet another defensive error. In the 34th minute, Adam Cristman intercepted a slow pass out of the back and fed Allsopp who finished calmly to the far post.
Kei Kamara scored in second-half stoppage time for the Wizards.
D.C.'s teenage keeper Bill Hamid made five saves in his MLS debut after starting in place of the fit Troy Perkins.
