FRESH from scoring for German club MSV Duisburg on the weekend, Dario Vidosic admits he's still dreaming of going to the World Cup this year with the Socceroos.
The 23-year-old Australian midfielder scored his first goal for Duisburg in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Paderborn, having joined the Zebras in January on loan from Bundesliga club FC Nurnberg.
Vidosic's time at Duisburg, though, hasn't gone exactly as hoped, restricted mainly to brief substitute's appearances which has hurt his World Cup chances.
But the former Brisbane Roar man still harbours hope of making the Australia squad for the South Africa tournament and wants to finish the season off well with MSV.
"It is obviously a big incentive," Vidosic told Der Westen. "I'll try everything to be there."
Socceroos boss Pim Verbeek is expected to announce a provisional 27-man squad on May 11 for a pre-World Cup training camp in Australia and Vidosic is desperate to be included.
"I have been in touch with national coach Pim Verbeek," he said. "I hope that I am in the 27-man squad. If that happens and I'm in the training camp, then I can make it in the final World Cup squad."
Nevertheless Vidosic, who has won four senior Australia caps, acknowledges things haven't gone to plan at Duisburg.
"Of course I had hoped for something better when I came to MSV, but I took time to acclimatize," he said.
Vidosic said illness early during his spell at Duisburg had made it difficult to settle in but didn't see his loan move as a waste of time.
"It was difficult to make something of the six months, but I don't see the move as a lost half-year," he said. "I've learned a lot here, due to the defensive work I've become more complete.
Vidosic added about his future: "I'll go back to FCN (Nurnberg). I'll keep my fingers crossed the club stays up."
