Sergio, who has been at Deportivo since 2001, is reportedly owed 4million euros in unpaid wages, while Uruguayan forward Taborda, who left the club last year, is still awaiting two payments from the club.

Deportivo have struggled financially for the past few seasons and Sergio's father, Avelino Gonzalez, says his son was left with no option but to report the club.

"We never imagined we would have to report the club after these nine years," he told AS.

"We are simply asking for the money Sergio is entitled to from his work. We can't let that pass by."

Deportivo have until August 2 to pay the debts, with the final amounts to be calculated by the AFE and a Professional Football League (LFP) Commission.

Failure to do so could lead to relegation and Depor admit the amount owed to Sergio is a concern for the club.

"With Taborda there is no problem, he should be paid today or tomorrow, but Sergio's case is an unpleasant issue," a Deportivo spokesman told AS.

"But the club has it under control and there will be an agreement soon."

In order for that agreement to be reached, Deportivo may have to sell one of their players and the situation could hasten the departure of Brazilian full-back Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid.

Deportivo still owe Atletico close to 2million euros for the purchase of midfielder Ze Castro and the sale of Filipe to the Madrid outfit would also wipe off that debt.

Unbelievably, the Galician outfit are also reported to owe Mallorca around 480,000 euros from the transfer of striker Albert Luque back in 2002.
