Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has done little to dampen speculation about potential moves for Jermaine Defoe and Kenwyne Jones.
Tottenham Hotspur's pacey poacher Defoe and Stoke City's tall target-man Jones have both been linked with moves to Villa Park.
Lambert stopped short of declaring his intention to recruit the duo, but strongly hinted Villa were in the market for both strikers.
"You are talking about two really good players, different types of players there," he said.
"I think a club this size will always be linked with players of that ilk.
"I don't think you ever stop looking for players. You have always got to try and improve.
"Whether they come in or not, we will have to wait and see but any manager will tell you, you are always going to look for players."
Speaking ahead of his team's English Premier League opener at West Ham United on Saturday, Lambert said there had been no developments in the situation of fullbacks Stephen Warnock and Alan Hutton, both of whom are tipped to leave Villa.
"(Nothing is happening) at the minute," he said.
"I've picked a squad for tomorrow at West Ham that will go and compete and do the very best they can.
"I spoke to Stephen and Alan, they know the situation, what is going on."
