The three-time J.League champions started the season slowly under the ex-Socceroos boss but won 3-0 against 2017 runners-up Kashima Antlers on Sunday to move up to 13th.

Postecoglou’s Brisbane Roar previously started slowly before going on to win one premiership and two championships with an attractive brand compared to the great Barcelona side.

“Ange has said that a few times that it’s normal in his game,” Degenek told FourFourTwo. “It takes a bit of time for things to click.

“We need to trust the process. We’re doing our best, we’re trusting the process.”

Yokohama also grabbed worldwide attention after living Postecoglou’s mantra with a spectacular 17-pass goal from Hugo Vieira in last weekend’s 4-4 draw with Shonan Bellmare.

“With that goal it was very nice,” Degenek added. “It was one of the nicest goals around the world on that weekend.

“That’s the way we want to play football. We want to be attacking, creative and adventurous.

“There’s obviously two sides to that and when you defend, you’re quite open.

“We’re doing quite well and we need to just start getting the results we deserve.”

Degenek added that Postecoglou has settled into Japanese life well.

“I think he’s settled in quite well,” he said.

“He enjoys it here and he’s said that a few times. I think he’s quite well organized.”

Degenek has spent the past two games on the bench but has played nine games this season and is happy with his form.

“I thought I started the season off quite well,” Degenek said.

“Obviously this season is a bit different with the World Cup coming up, wanting to play every game and develop as much as I can to push for that World Cup which is quite important.”

The 17-time Socceroo’s versatility in defence makes him an attractive option for new coach Bert van Marwijk for the World Cup.

Van Marwijk has inherited an unsettled backline with Trent Sainsbury, Matthew Jurman, Bailey Wright, Matt Spiranovic, Ryan McGowan and Aleksandar Susnjar among his defensive options.

“I’m a centre-back, right-back, defensive midfielder, I can play three positions without a problem,” Degenek said.

“I’m quite versatile, it’s a matter of who sees me where.

“But that’s a different picture. The boss, Bert van Marwijk, will decide who he wants to bring along and play where.

“Us players need to be playing regularly and fit. When we go into camp in Turkey we need to put our best foot forward and see how things go.”
