Degenek started in central defence in the home tie.

The match was turned on its head in the 22nd minute when Milan Pavkov headed in from a corner.

Red Star made it 2-0 just seven minutes later when Pavkov fired home from 25 yards out.

They held on to notch a famous victory.

"You could see that a few things were not going too well,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told BT Sport.

"We had a chance and they defended on the line after two headers from us. They scored a goal and then completely out of the blue they scored a second and the atmosphere completely changed.

"The second half was really dominant but we didn’t score. The boys are very disappointed, I’m disappointed and we have to do better. We have to do better."
