The Sky Blues completed a deal for Juventus legend midway through last week and Pignata spoke to reporters fresh from returning from Italy at the Sky Blues' 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Sunday.

Pignata revealed the 37-year-old was eager to link up with the squad as soon as possible in a sign he's not coming to Australia for a holiday.

“He wants to start training with the team and play as soon as possible,” Pignata said.

“He's been training with a local side and he's got his own personal trainer. He's really keen to come in.”

Pignata added that the Italian could make his debut in the club's final pre-season match against Newcastle in Budgewoi on September 22.

"It will be our final trial before the start of the season and I can't see why he won't play," Pignata said.

"He told us he is keen to get involved very quickly, start training with the team and getting to know his new team-mates."

Meanwhile, Pignata also implored A-League fans to get behind Del Piero's signing, stating he hopes his arrival can see numbers "blown through the roof".

“Alot of fans that haven't really wanted to be part of the aleague for whatever reason, they've had an interest, now they've got a major interest to come to games and watch him,” Pignata said.

“We're hoping this will blow all the ratings and attendances through the roof.”
