This was the result Princess Mary probably wanted. A 1-1 draw between Denmark and Australia in Samara means both sides can still qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup
The Danes struck early but didn’t threaten much after that. It was mostly an even game so a draw was probably a fair result.
However, Australian fans might wish this game had another half an hour added onto it. The Socceroos seemed on top towards the end could have snatched a valuable winner in the Group C clash.
Sadly, it wasn’t the start Australia were looking for. Christian Eriksen’s strike showed why he is a Barcelona target this European summer.
This was a wake-up call for the Socceroos, and Mile Jedinak and Aaron Mooy kept the Tottenham man quiet for the rest of the game..
The second half saw the game swing further towards the men in green and gold, and Jedinak's penalty, following Yussuf Poulsen's handball, leveled the scores.
Once again, Daniel Arzani showed why he has excited so many people within Australian football.
Who goes through will now hinge on the last group game.
Australia
Mat Ryan 6 – He won’t want to see replays of Eriksen’s goal, the ball appears to go through his hands, but it was hit exceptionally well. His distribution was good and his assured touches really do give Australia an extra outfield player.
Aziz Behich 7.5 – So far he’s been Australia’s best route out of defence in this tournament. He added a great clip to his highlight reel in the second half and he’s been a shining light for Australia so far this tournament.
Mark Milligan 7 – The Danish number nines were initially hard to handle for the Australian centre-backs. Milligan adjusted and came out on top in the end. A solid performance from the veteran.
Trent Sainsbury 8 – Apparently he had a bunch of clubs enquiring about his services during the France game. Solid offers should be coming in after this game too. Sainsbury finds good passes forward and his positioning has been superb.
Josh Risdon 7 – Not as dynamic as Behich is on the left and it makes the team a little lopsided. He did his defensive duties really well.
Mile Jedinak 7.5 – Calmly despatched another penalty. He was dominant in midfield. He’s made a name for himself with performances like these. He won countless headers and stifled one of the most highly-rated attacking midfielders in the world.

Aaron Mooy 8.5 – Played his position beautifully and found a lot more forward passes than he did against the French. Struck a sweet strike in the second half that just flashed wide. A player at the peak of his career, playing well on the biggest stage.
Tom Rogic 7 – Had some very nice touches throughout. Held the ball up very well. He didn’t look to shoot as often as he usually does, and his game is worse for this. Australia did lose some attacking qualities when he left the pitch.
Robbie Kruse 4.5 – Was off the pace. Maybe he needed some confidence building in the lead up to the World Cup. He’s a shadow of the player he once was. He still finds good positions but as he showed with his decision not to hit Leckie’s cutback first time, he’s not at his best.
Matthew Leckie 7 – Took him a little while to come into the game but when he did, he produced some fantastic wing play to create a great chance for Robbie Kruse.
Andrew Nabbout 5.5 – Had some good early touches and got on the ball more in the first fifteen minutes of this game then he did in the entire French game. He made a nuisance of himself but he needs to work on his positioning in the box. He doesn’t threaten the goal enough for a striker. Hopefully his shoulder is not too bad.
Subs
Daniel Arzani 7 – The way he took on players and threatened the goal in his limited game time was fantastic. He’ll be hoping he’s done enough to win a starting spot against Peru.
Tomi Juric 5.5 – Held the ball up well once but didn’t get the ball much.
Jackson Irvine 5 – Came on for the last seven minutes.
Denmark
Kaspar Schmiechel 6.5 – Did he study any of Jedinak’s penalties in the lead up to this game? If he did do the homework, he should have done better on the penalty. Otherwise his game was nearly flawless with only one poor piece of distribution.
Henrik Dalsgaard 6 – The Danish defence was excellent. He accounted for Kruse without any trouble and managed to foul him a lot less than most opponents. Arzani proved a lot trickier for this Dane.
Simon Kjar 7 – Did really well to deny Leckie in a one-on-one chance in the second half. His positioning was excellent all game.
Andreas Christensen 7 – Another Danish defender who can hold his head up high. Australia really only threatened down the flanks and from range, never from the striker and never down the middle.
Jens Stryger Larson 6.5 – Had Leckie to deal with for most of the game and did well until the second half. Provided some good width in possession.
Thomas Delaney 4.5 – He butchered a late cross when he should have done so much better. He struggled to deal with Rogic all game and he mostly passed it sideways and backwards.
Lasse Schöne 6 – He was the Danish midfielder who asked the most questions of the Socceroos during the majority of the game. He got forward more often than Eriksen but he didn’t have the end product.
Christian Eriksen 6 – An absolutely beautiful finish for Denmark’s goal. After that he didn’t have the impact on the game most would have expected. If not for his goal he’d be rated much lower. Australia got the better of the midfield and he’ll be disappointed he didn’t find more space.
Yurary Poulsen 4 – Another player who for some reason decided to put his hands up over his head in the box. He misses the next game after being carded for his mistake, which was pretty harsh. Other than this, his influence on the game was minimal.
Nicolai Jørgensen 7.5 – Stunning assist for Eriksen’s goal. He played as a classic number nine, holding up the play, using his physical presence to cause trouble and brought his team-mates into the game high up the pitch. Went a little quiet in the second half and made way for Cornelius.

Pione Sisto 7.5 – One of Denmark’s brightest young prospects and he showed some glimpses of why, but also had some very quiet periods. He was Denmark’s best attacking option in the latter stages of the game. As his team-mates were running out of steam he was just clicking into gear. All in all, a good game from the 23-year-old.
Subs
Martin Braithwaite 5 – He would have a massive cult following if he was an Australian player with that name. Massive.
Andreas Cornelius 5.5 – An interesting choice of substitutes for Jorgensen. He offered the exact same thing, a tall strong forward.
