Alex's late winner settled the Istanbul derby in Fenerbahce's favour as their season of success continues at the expense of struggling Galatasaray.
Hosts Galatasaray came into the match having lost 12 of their 25 games in the Super Lig to date, but gave their fans hope of beating their bitter rivals when Colin Kazim-Richards gave them a 14th-minute lead.
However, Fener's second-half substitute Semih Senturk drew his side level with a quarter of an hour left before Brazilian playmaker Alex grabbed the winner in the 87th minute.
The result takes Fenerbahce three points above Trabzonspor, who can draw level again with a win at Genclerbirligi on Sunday. Galatasaray are down in 11th, with three defeats from their last four league games.
