Bayern showed off the class that has taken them to the top of the Bundesliga table in a 1-0 win over fellow German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund.

Munich were in the ascendancy from the outset as Toni Kroos shot wide and Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller was forced into a quality save as Javi Martinez came within a whisker of smashing in a volley.

Dortmund remained dangerous on the break but Bayern eventually scored the opener they deserved in the 43rd minute as Robben pounced on a missed clearance, firing the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards.

Bayern maintained the pressure in the second half but could not add to their tally.

Regardless, coach Jupp Heynckes will be satisfied to have gained some form of revenge over Dortmund after they thrashed his side 5-1 in the competition's final last season.

Elsewhere, Stuttgart enjoyed a 2-0 win over second tier side Bochum in the second of Wednesday's quarter-finals.

Ibrahima Traore had a hand in both goals as Christian Gentner and Vedad Ibisevic scored either side of the break to help Stuttgart join Bayern, Freiburg and Wolfsburg in the competition's final four.
