The former Holland and Rangers boss was reported to be the frontrunner to take over from Graham Arnold, with some claiming a deal has already been done.

But Advocaat today revealed he hadn't signed anything - and wants to take his current club Zenit St Petersburg to Euro glory.

"I haven't accepted the job," he told Sydney's Sun Herald. "There is a deadline of course but let's wait and see what happens.

"I have made no decision on my future yet - of course I am aware what people are saying and writing in Australia but it's still a 50-50 thing."

He added: "We're second in the table with eight games left and if we finish top, we go directly into the Champions League - and that could change everything for me.

"This club is very ambitious and if we go that far, then it could be enough to make me stay where I am and try to take them to another level. I will make a final decision in two months when the season ends.

"Club management is all consuming; it's almost a 24-hour business. I still have a lot of energy but I will be 60 later this month and maybe a change of lifestyle and a change of priorities would be good for me.

"That said, I'm quite content in Russia, St Petersburg is a beautiful city and the game is growing fast here. Before I do anything, I must discuss things with my family."

The FFA are understood to be keen to have a new national team coach based in Australia, but Advocaat has said he would like to keep a European base.

"I'd say that Australia's best players are scattered all around Europe," he told the newspaper. "Would it really be logical for any coach to spend most of his time there?"
