WELLINGTON Phoenix recruit Diego believes the New Zealanders are set for their best ever campaign and isn't ruling out a crack at the title.
The former Adelaide United man is expected to make his debut this weekend when Phoenix face Melbourne Victory in Queenstown.
He cannot wait to get started and believes there are good times ahead for Ricki Herbert's men.
He told the Southland Times: "In my eyes, it will be the best ever season for the Phoenix.
"(Winning the title) will be a difficult task, but it's something that is do-able. The team has been around for a couple of years and there is definitely a core."
The Brazilian says he bears no grudges over his exit from Adelaide United and he is now ready to start a fresh challenge in his career.
He feels he has plenty to offer Herbert's side and is looking to play a major role in helping the team to success.
"I bring that technical part of the game, coming from Brazil with my passing skills and shooting vision. I want to help the midfield and try to control the game," he said.
Meanwhile, Phoenix are waiting to hear whether they will be allowed to field a reserve/youth side in the New Zealand Football Championship next season. A decision is expected in the next 24 hours.
