SOCCEROO Richard Garcia faces a potential club versus country dilemma if his Hull City side miss out on automatic promotion to the English Premier League.
As revealed by au.fourfourtwo.com, the 26-year-old has been called into Pim Verbeek’s train on squad ahead of the Ghana friendly on Friday May 23.
While Garcia is understandably delighted, there is a potential dark cloud on the horizon, albeit it is still a case of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ at this stage.
His domestic club is still well in the hunt for a place in the Premier League with two games of the season remaining.
If they fail to finish first or second they will be one of four players in the Championship play-offs. The winners of the two ties then meet in a final with the winner gaining promotion.
The Championship play-off final is on Sunday May 25, potentially leaving Garcia with an almighty headache.
For the time being though, he is just anxious to regain full fitness after suffering a shoulder injury.
He missed the Tigers last two matches and looks set to miss out again on Saturday when Hull face Crystal Palace.
The winger is optimistic he’ll be back fairly quickly. He told the Hull Mail: “The injury is not too bad, it's easing off quite a bit.
“I’m hopeful I'll be back sooner rather than later, but it’s been disappointing for me that I haven’t been able to play a role in the last couple of games.
“You want to be able to play when it matters most. It’s disheartening that I can’t be involved, but I know the boys will do a job regardless.
“As a footballer you want to play in all the big games and in a run-in like ours, these are exciting times.
“Coming to Hull was something I knew would move me forward. I felt that if I was moving along in my club football, I could also move forward in other parts of my career.
“This season, we’ve made a few headlines and people have started to recognise me a bit more.”
