Western Sydney captain Dimas Delgado has given the Wanderers a pass mark for performances heading towards the new year despite sitting sixth on the A-League table.
Last season’s runners-up were thrashed 3-0 by Melbourne Victory at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night, but Dimas was unfazed about the three losses this season.
The Wanderers skipper backed coach Tony Popovic as the right man to lead the club and praised him for the consistency, feeling the wins would come.
“The (coaching staff) are happy with the performance, he’s (Popovic) positive and he believes in his team,” Dimas said.
“We are positive in our job and it’s just to keep doing our thing because we do many things well, so just keep believing.
“We’re creating many chances every week, we play very well but we just can’t put the ball in the net… we’ll just keep doing our work and I think the results will come.”
Dimas also highlighted similarities in gameplay between the 4-1 win away to Central Coast Mariners a fortnight ago to the recent smashing by the Victory.
Western Sydney now look to Wellington Phoenix on Saturday, with hopes high that key striker Brendon Santalab can take part after coming off in the 72nd minute against Victory following a host of wasted opportunities.
Dimas added: “The team played very well and we’re training very well every day so we have confidence in everything we do so we’re not worried about it.
“Playing Wellington is a tough game… they have a good team, so we expect a tough game. If we play hard, we keep doing our things, I think for sure we’ll keep creating many chances to score so we just need to be a little bit lucky.
“Santa is an important player for us, so this week hopefully they can play, so we’ll see how he goes during the week."
