STRIKER Dimi Petratos has scored a month-long training opportunity with English Championship side Blackburn Rovers after impressing in Malaysia.
The former Sydney FC forward had barely settled in with his new club Kelantan FC before there was talk of opportunities in the UK.
The Red Warriors have strong links with Rovers’ Indian owners, Venky’s, paving the way for Petratos’s arrival three days ago.
The 20-year-old met with the Lancashire outfit’s global advisor and former international, Shebby Singh, and then hit the training paddock for the first time yesterday.
Kelantan president Tan Sri Annuar Musa has indicated the move is primarily to sharpen the Aussie ahead of the club’s AFC Cup tilt next month.
Petratos was joined at Ewood Park by teammate Faizul Nazlin Sayuti – both are expected back in Malaysia on March 6.
But the striker's agent, James Hardy, said his client was keen to make the most of his four-week opportunity.
“He’s very excited,” Hardy said. “It’s early days but he’s going to spend a month there and then we’ll see what comes of it.
“They’re not rushing into it. Kelantan said what we’ll do is we’ll send him over there for a month and see how he goes, expose him to the right people and hopefully he does well.
“He had his first training session yesterday, obviously it was first time, but he reckoned he did well.”
Petratos, who was signed to boost Kelantan’s foreign contingent ahead of their AFC Cup campaign scored seven goals for the Red Warriors in pre-season.
Blackburn currently sit mid-table in the championship.
