W-League striker Lisa De Vanna may find herself in hot water after all, following an off-the-ball incident in Canberra United’s 1-0 semi-final loss to Melbourne City.
The Matildas firebrand sparked a social media storm after escaping sanction for elbowing goal scorer Jess Fishlock in the February 5 match.
Without a league Match Review Panel it was thought the 32-year-old De Vanna could not be held to account post-match. Not so.
Football Federation Australia released a statement today, saying the veteran attacker has been cited under the W-League Disciplinary Rules and National Disciplinary Regulations.

In the 109th minute, De Vanna ran towards the unsuspecting Fishlock and struck her from behind, causing her to go to ground.
Shortly afterwards, the Welsh international was seen remonstrating with referee Rebecca Durcau who missed the incident caught by the cameras.

The FFA stated” “While there is no MRP review of W-League games, under the regulations applying to the W-League FFA may cite a player to appear at a hearing in relation to a serious incident that escaped the referee’s attention.
“The matter has been referred to the independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing to determine whether an offence has been committed, and if so, what sanction should be imposed.”
