DAVID Carney staked his claim for a first team recall at Sheffield United with two assists in a 5-0 reserve thrashing of Lincoln City.
The Socceroo teed up a double at Sincil Bank but second string outings are not certainly not going to be enough to keep his green and gold shirt secure.
Carney has been included in the 35-strong party ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Qatar but Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has made it crystal clear that both Carney and fellow Championship performer Mile Sterjovski need to be playing first team football.
The coach said yesterday: "They are on the list but I have to seriously think about what I am going to do with them in the future because if it keeps going on like this then I will probably have to make for them, unpopular decisions."
