BRUCE Djite struck twice as Gold Coast United enjoyed a 3-1 home triumph over visiting Wellington Phoenix at Skilled Park on Friday night.
Djite scored one goal against Sydney last weekend but was in full effect this time around with goals in the sixth and 70th minutes to stamp his return to the A-League.
After failing to register a goal in his first three games since transferring to United from Turkey, Djite now has three in his past two matches.
After entering the match from the bench in the 54th minute, 20-year-old prodigy James Brown headed in a Djite tap on 26 minutes later to seal United's most emphatic win of the season.
The result brings to an end Wellington's four-match unbeaten run over the second-year club and means United have now beaten every club they have faced since entering the competition.
For Phoenix the loss continues a barren run of away form; while they sit in fifth place on 11 points they have only managed a single point away from their Westpac Stadium base.
English-born Barbadian striker Paul Ifill slotted home from the penalty spot for Phoenix but that was far from enough against a surging United outfit.
It only took six minutes for Gold Coast to open the scoring with Tahj Minniecon - just returned from Vietnam with the Olyroos - beating two defenders and giving Djite plenty of time one-on-one with Jade North at the top of the box.
It was one touch, spin and strike for Djite, who slammed the ball into the back of the net for his second goal in as many matches.
But the celebration was short-lived with Phoenix streaking back downfield. Chris Greenacre looked to have scored on a Paul Ifill cross only to be ruled offside but when United defender Kristian Rees had a brain-snap and handballed in the box, Wellington had their chance to make amends.
Ifill stepped up to take the penalty and drilled low past 'keeper Glen Moss to erase the advantage with his fourth goal in eight matches this season.
The game slowed after the score was levelled with the visitors having a series of decent crosses cleared by Rees and Michael Thwaite.
It wasn't until the 35th minute that United got their next good chance when Culina found Minniecon at the top of the box. But the 21-year-old's strike didn't have the same venom as Djite's and was cleaned up easily by the visitors.
Starting to pierce holes in the Phoenix defence, United should have gone ahead when Thwaite put a lovely ball through for a streaking Culina on the left wing. With Djite storming down the centre of the pitch the captain only had to put the ball in front of him but the cross was just off target and forced Djite to miss time his shot way over the top.
Wellington looked content to play for the draw after 60 minutes but that might have been their undoing.
Djite struck for his second in the 70th minute with a sweetly timed back-heel from point blank range.
