Scans have revealed the 21 year old has a ruptured hamstring tendon in his left leg, the prognosis worse than first thought. The medical term for the area Djite has ruptured is the biceps femoris tendon, which is part of the hamstring.

The injury occurred during shooting practice at training with the Qantas Socceroos in preparation for the World Cup qualifier against China.

Djite was obviously distraught by the scan results, which could see him miss the remainder of the AFC Champions League group stage.

“I will have to just get on with it,” an upset Djite said. “Now I will work hard to regain full fitness and if anyone can do it I can.”

Djite’s injury is a significant blow for the Reds, the forward having been a lone target up front in the club’s opening two AFC Champions League 2008 matches.

The setback also hinders Djite’s build up towards his goal to be part of the Qantas Under 23s squad that will head to the 2008 Beijing Olympics in August.
