"I've had two meetings with the coach [Mesut Bakkal] since I've been here. He looks at me as a starting player," Djite told au.fourfourtwo.com from Ankara.

Djite is likely to play as part of a front two for his new club.

"It's a different role for me as I've played a lot as a lone striker for Adelaide and the Olyroos - he's [Bakkal] keen for me to be more mobile and make more forward runs," adds the 21-year-old.

Djite has scored six goals in the off-season, including two in the pre-season cup final. But he's not getting too carried away with the hype.

"It's been a fantastic start goals-wise, which is how they judge a striker," he said. "In saying that, it's only pre-season and the teams we've played have been rotating and changing players as have we.

"We haven't really come up against a first XI so to speak. It's good to score goals but I'm still adjusting to the speed and physicality of the league."

The 21-year-old described his club as a "physical side and it's a physical league with a lot of hard working players. They have a big emphasis on that."

Meanwhile, as Djite slogs away in Ankara, the Olyroos kick off their Olympic campaign tonight in China against Serbia.

Djite's spot in Graham Arnold's side appears to be going to Glory's talented Nikita Rukavytsya.

Djite and Nathan Burns were two players deemed not "heat-resistant" by Arnold. Oddly, Rukyvystya was not part of the Asian qualifying campaign and has not been heat-tested, according to Arnold.

However, Djite is moving on from the decision.

"The Olyroos was very disappointing and devastating but everyone has their path written by God and for me that wasn't part of it,' he said.

"I've been put on this path. If I dwell on my non-selection then it might affect my focus here."

And Djite has been buoyed by support from the Australian supporters' community.

"It's fantastic to hear," he added. "Thank you to everyone back in Australia."

He's also been buoyed by fellow former Adelaide and Olyroo reject Nathan Burns, who recently scored his first goal in nearby Greece with AEK Athens.

Said Djite: "I speak to him pretty often on Skype or Facebook and I call him every now and then and he's enjoying it over there at AEK."
