PERTH Glory defender Dino Djulbic faces the prospect of a lengthy ban after he was dismissed in the 20th minute of his side's loss to Sydney FC for allegedly spitting at referee Peter Green.

The fiery Glory player lost his cool when Green pointed to the spot after Adriano Pellegrino brought Steve Corica down inside the penalty box.
Djulbic will face an independent disciplinary committee later this week and if slapped with a R3 (red card three) offence - the standard charge for spitting at a match official under FFA's national disciplinary guidelines - he faces anywhere from six matches to 18 months on the sidelines if found guilty.
At the post-match-press conference, Glory coach Dave Mitchell, who was unaware of the referee's reasoning for dismissing the defender until after the match, said Djulbic's lack of restraint undoubtedly turned the match in Sydney's favour.
"I just felt he was a little bit ill-disciplined and cost us the game and he's let the players and the club down," Mitchell said.
"It looked like it was going to be a tremendous game I think, once we equalised and got back in the game at 1-1."
"We were giving punch for punch and obviously with the red card and the penalty at the same time, going down to 10 men and (conceding a goal) you're 2-1 down against Sydney at home - it's not an easy task."
"So from that point we just tried to contain it until half-time so we could make some adjustments and a bit of good play (from Sydney) and a bit of sloppy play from us and Sydney scored a couple of goals to capitalise on it."
While Mitchell expressed his disappointment in Djulbic's lack of composure he was reluctant to speculate on the severity of the incident.
"Whether he spat at the referee or he spat at the ground I don't know, I'll have to see the video footage just to take in what actually happened," he said.
