ADELAIDE United and the Olyroos will do battle in Sydney's west on Monday as both teams look to fine-tune preparations for their respective quests.
United will play their final trial match against Graham Arnold's side at Parramatta Stadium ahead of the club’s decisive AFC Champions League 2008 match against Chinese champions Changchun Yatai.
With a spot in the Quarter Final Stage of the AFC Champions League coming down to the final Match Day of the Group Stage on May 21, Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar says the match will be highly beneficial in his team’s build up.
Vidmar said: "It will be similar to the trials we have played against Melbourne Victory throughout the Group Stage of the AFC Champions League.
“This game will give us good match practise against quality young players, and it is great to have the opportunity to have a competitive hit out against the Olyroos.”
This will be United’s final match before the squad departs for China next Saturday.
Vidmar is expected to give striker Paul Agostino some much needed game time, as the club’s marquee signing tries to push for a spot against Changchun Yatai after recovery from chicken pox. Vidmar will also experiment with possible options in midfield to cover the absence of the suspended Diego.
The match will also be welcome preparation for the Qantas Under 23s, who have matches against Croatia and Chile coming up, as the team continues it’s build up towards the Beijing Olympics in August.
Olyroos Coach Graham Arnold is expected to field his strongest possible line up against United but he will be obviously be without The Reds’ Qantas Under 23s members Nathan Burns, Robert Cornthwaite, Bruce Djite and Kristian Sarkies.
