United travel to Brisbane Roar on Saturday night, an away trip that has proved particularly fruitful over the years.

The Reds are yet to taste defeat at Suncorp Stadium, having recorded three wins and three draws from their six matches against Roar in the A-League.

United's last visit to the Queensland capital was in round eight last season, a Robert Cornthwaite header giving Adelaide all three points.

Adelaide captain Travis Dodd cannot put a finger on why United have been so successful at the ground, but he knows it will take more than past history to secure a crucial three points and lift the club off the bottom of the table.

"I can't really explain it but we seem to be able to go to Suncorp and maybe not always necessarily play free flowing attacking football that is a spectacle to watch, but we can grind out results there," he said.

"So that is a positive for us, that we've been able to do that in the past, and we're desperate this week, as we have been for the last few weeks.

"We need to go over there and make sure that we don't leave anything in the tank at the end of the game, and make sure we come away with the points."

But Dodd is wary of a Brisbane team that have picked up in recent weeks.

"It's certainly something we can take a positive out of, that we've had very good results there but we can't take that for granted though," he said. "We know it's going to be extremely difficult with them having a new coach and a shake up of their system.

"They'll be out to impress but I still think we can take heart in the fact that we haven't lost there in six games, and that's something we can work towards maintaining."

Roar Coach Ange Postecoglou has his team playing with a committed, no fear approach, which has seen them taste defeat just once in their past five games.

But Dodd is adamant Adelaide travel in positive mood.

"The mood has been very good at training this week," said the United captain. "We've been trying to keep it upbeat and positive and everyone in a good frame of mind.

"Sure we're in bottom spot and no one wants to be there, so that's extra motivation to play well and get a result on the weekend.

"There is still a lot to play for, we keep saying week after week, but finals are still achievable so we need to give it everything we've got, not only for ourselves, but for the club and the supporters."
