Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou announced on Wednesday morning Troisi will be part of the 30-player squad which will be subsequently cut to 23-men following this weekend’s matches.

The Asian Cup hero has not been involved in the Socceroos since a 4-0 away win to Bangladesh in late 2015 and upon his arrival to Victory he admitted his previous stints in Asia and Middle East were tumultuous after a lack of game time.

He has now played 20 games and netted five goals this season for Victory. Muscat explained the club was a platform for him to help himself and now has the opportunity to catch Postecoglou’s eye in Saturday night’s game against Perth Glory.

“It wasn’t something that was make or break for the decision for him to come back,” Muscat said.

“Without doubt it was one of the things I did say to him – ‘come back to an environment where you can play with a smile on your face, play your best football and try get you back into the national team’.

“All we did was provide this environment for him and ultimately he’s done the hard work. His form has been very good and now he’s in the 30.

“Ange will be watching all the games this weekend and got an opportunity this week to get himself into the 23 and the team. Now he’s come this far, why stop?”

Muscat also said Troisi still hasn’t shifted into top gear just yet.

He added: “I don’t discuss those things with Ange, it’s not my place but I’m not surprised. Based on his form, he’s been very good. He’s been improving and I’ll maintain again his best is still yet to come.”

Muscat said Kosovo have not confirmed whether current golden boot leader Besart Berisha will represent the country in the same round.

Should Berisha be selected Victory may well be without four key players in the Round 24 clash against Brisbane Roar with both Jai Ingham and Marco Rojas on duty for New Zealand.

And while the Victory boss said he felt they were “punished” for the player’s individual reward, he said he was pleased for Ingham.

“A lot has been made about the one or two chances he had last week (1-0 loss to Sydney FC), he did ever so well in that game,” he said.

“(Rhyan) Grant has been a form fullback, he’s been selected for the national team and he didn’t really do too much. Jai created two opportunities against them so he’s going very well.”

Muscat wanted people to recognise the time it takes for players to make the transition from NPL to A-League.

Ingham made the switch from Victorian NPL side Hume City to Victory in January 2016.

“I think the lesson is that when you get these players in is they need time,” Muscat said.

“Jai during the ACL last year had some good moments but they need time to adapt. Not only to the game but going from part-time to professional, training every day and the intensity.

“We were very patient and I think he’s rewarded us and rewarded himself with the way he’s conducted himself over the time.”
