Keane joined Liverpool on Monday after six seasons with Spurs, during which time he scored 107 competitive goals.

Dos Santos, 19, who completed his move from Barcelona on June 10, hopes to have a similar impact at White Hart Lane but said it would be a tough challenge.

He told Spanish newspaper Sport: "It's difficult to replace Robbie Keane as he is a player of the highest level. But I am highly ambitious and I hope to adapt quickly.

"I'm not going to go crazy and compare myself to Keane or say I'm going to do what he did. But I'm going to work very hard to write my own history here."

The Mexico international also revealed that Barca's former Arsenal star Thierry Henry was influential in his decision to move to England.

"When I knew Tottenham was an option for me I asked Thierry Henry what the club would be like," he said.

"He told me that it would be good for me to come here."
