Schenkeveld, 25, was not a part of Zwolle's match-day squad for their clash with Roda JC on Sunday.

Former City coach John van't Schip, now with Zwolle in the Eredivisie, confirmed Schenkeveld was exploring an option overseas.

"Bart was not selected because he is working on a foreign club," van't Schip said.

"We have given him the space to complete that transfer."

According to strong reports in the Netherlands, that club is A-League side Melbourne City.

Schenkeveld came through the youth ranks of reigning Dutch champions Feyenoord before moving away to Heracles in 2012.

The centre back then signed with Zwolle in 2015 on a three-year deal, but is now set for a switch to Australia.

Schenkeveld has also represented the Netherlands at U19 level.
