Dutch Football Association (KNVB) director Henk Kesler has called Holland "a country of whingers".
Kesler was reacting to heckling of national team coach Marco van Basten during the 2-0 win over Slovenia, something which he describes as "nothing more than an incident".
Kesler told newspaper BN/De Stem that he thinks the fans' attitude will change when the Oranje seal qualification for Euro 2008.
"We are very quick to show our displeasure," he said. "I don't have a problem with that, although I am by nature an optimistic person. Mark my words, when we qualify European Championship fever will rise again."
Kesler nonetheless defended the right of supporters to complain.
He said: "The performance wasn't good and the people have the right to react the way they did. Marco (van Basten) himself said that too. And I find that the players reacted in a mature way. I see the jeering of Wednesday as something to spur the players on.
"We played poorly against Bulgaria recently, but then everyone stood like one man behind the team."
And Kesler reiterated the fans' displeasure was nothing to be worried about.
"I will if we play on November 17 against Luxembourg in an empty De Kuip stadium," he joked.
