Oranje boss Bert van Marwijk is content with the work done by the team since Neeskens took charge last year but no longer feels it is necessary to run a shadow senior side.

Van Marwijk told the KNVB website: "Holland B have in the past few months done what we expected.

"The goals we set were achieved. But after the under-21 side failed to qualify for the European Championships in Sweden we wanted to prevent players who were close to the full side falling between two stools.

"The likes of (Nordin) Amrabat, (Edson) Braafheid, (Eljero) Elia, Mendes da Silva, (Stijn) Schaars, (Gregory) Van der Wiel and (Rob) Wielaert all played themselves into the picture for the full team and that indicates that the project had its worth."
