The potential transfer coup was revealed by Dynamo president Igor Surkis in remarks reported on club website www.dynamo.kiev.ua.

Surkis claims he is not surprised that Shevchenko has failed to enjoy the success in London that he did with Dynamo and AC Milan.

He said: "I said in every interview that there was a possibility that Shevchenko wouldn't play well for Chelsea. I can say even more.

"I've asked Shevchenko to ask his board to let him go to Dynamo (Kiev) on loan.

"If we qualify for the (Champions League) group stage we'll have only 24 hours to do all the paperwork."

Dynamo will qualify for the Champions League qualifier if they can see off Sarajevo of Bosnia-Herzegovina in their third-round qualifier - they won the first leg 1-0 away.

Surkis admitted he could not afford to buy 30-year-old Shevchenko but claimed a season's loan was a possibility.

He said: "I'm ready to pay his salary instead of the Chelsea board but I'm not ready to reimburse 45 million dollars (£22.5million) to (Chelsea owner Roman) Abramovich for him.

"I don't know what's going on at Chelsea but I'm ready to take Shevchenko on loan.

"He does not have a small salary but I'm ready to pay that."
