Two second-half goals from Juan Pablo Angel helped New York to 3-0 victory away to the Kansas City Wizards, while Columbus recorded a 2-0 home win over struggling DC United in Ohio and the Galaxy drew 0-0 at Toronto FC.

Salou Ibrahim had given the Red Bulls the lead with a goal in the 55th minute before captain Angel struck twice in the last 10 minutes to give the visitors a third win in a row.

The Wizards' Davy Arnaud was sent off in the 94th minute for a reckless tackle on Joel Lindpere, his third dismissal of the season.

In Columbus, the Crew had some good fortune as Guillermo Barros Schelotto opened the scoring in the 57th minute having controlled the ball with his hand before tapping in for a 1-0 lead. None of the officials noticed the infringement and despite the protests of DC United players the goal stood.

Eric Brunner added a second three minutes from time and despite seeing a Steven Lenhart penalty saved in injury time, the Crew stay level with the Red Bulls on 24 points, while having a game in hand.

Toronto FC remain in third, six points back after holding the visiting Galaxy to a scoreless draw at BMO Field as clashes between political protesters and police over the G20 Summit in the city centre prevented many fans from attending.

The point for the Galaxy extends the LA lead on top of the Western Conference to nine points over MLS champions Real Salt Lake, who have played a game less.

In other MLS games, the Colorado Rapids drew 2-2 at the Houston Dynamo and Chivas USA, the bottom side in the West, were beaten 2-1 at home in Los Angeles by fellow strugglers FC Dallas.
