The Australia international has shone at right-back and in central and wide midfield this season but has found the net just once.

That goal came in Rovers' 2-2 draw at Fulham a fortnight ago and the former Feyenoord man is hungry for more.

The 28-year-old said: "It is great to get back on the scoresheet. I was unhappy I didn't get a couple and I hit the post at the weekend.

"It's nice to be up there and having opportunities once again. Hopefully, this season you'll see a few more hit the net.

"Once you score one, it is like an addiction, like a drug, you just want more and more of it. It is great to finally score again and I will be doing everything to score a few more."

One man likely to be in the hunt for more goals in Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with West Ham at Ewood Park is top scorer Benni McCarthy after manager Mark Hughes played down a reported rift.

It was claimed the South African striker stormed out of the ground after being substituted in the second half of last week's 3-1 win over Newcastle.

Hughes claims no such thing occurred and insists there has been no need for clear-the-air talks with the 30-year-old.

Hughes said: "People keep on telling me that he has stormed off down the tunnel and 'left the building', so to speak, but I spoke to Benni about it after the game.

"Obviously, he was dressed in his suit because he had been taken off early but he was still there at the end of the game.

"It's just one of those stories where possibly people are trying to make mischief, that's all it was. We're fine."

McCarthy has netted eight times this season in all competitions and Hughes is looking forward to seeing him score plenty more in the coming months.

The 30-year-old suffered the disappointment of being left out of the South Africa squad for the African Nations Cup this week but Hughes is backing him to continue delivering the goods in the Premier League.

"We're delighted with that decision because it helps our situation," Hughes said.
