The 1994 World Cup winner had been expected to confirm his retirement as a player, but has also decided to call time on his coaching career, effective from March 30.

"After the 30th, I stop. I will not go on even as coach," Romario said.

The 42-year-old revealed that he will help the Brazilian Football Confederation in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup in this homeland, adding: "I will contribute to promoting the 2014 World Cup. I will work on that."

Romario was handed a 120-day temporary ban by the Brazilian Supreme Court of Sport Justice (STJD) after it was revealed he was using banned substance finasteride in a medicine to avoid hair loss.

Despite appeals, the STJD ratified their decision in January and since then Romario has been coaching Vasco as the successor to Valdir Espinosa.
