The game was suspended after 65 minutes with the score tied at 1-1 when excessive heavy rainfall at the Angelo Massimino made conditions impossible to play in.

Enrique said the decision by referee Paolo Tagliavento was 'the right thing to do for the players and the fans', adding that the threat of potential injuries was too much for the official to gamble.

"It's a shame the weather could not allow us to continue, but it was the right thing to do for the players and the fans," he said.

"There was the risk of injury and very little chance of seeing any real football in those conditions."

Catania took the lead through Nicola Legrottaglie, before Daniele De Rossi equalised for Roma.

Enrique was unhappy with his team's effort up to that point, where he felt his side made life for Catania too easy.

"We tried too hard to break through the middle. We committed so many mistakes and we had made too many risks in defence. The game was wide open before the abandonment," he said.

The remaining 25 minutes of the match will be played out during February.
